In the aftermath of the Gangasagar Fair, ship services have been abruptly halted at Gangasagar, leaving thousands of pilgrims stranded at Kachuberia Vessel Ghat. The closure is attributed to dense fog shrouding the coastal areas of South 24 Parganas, leading to poor visibility and potential safety hazards.
Lakhs of devotees who participated in the Gangasagar Mela, witnessing a record 10 million pilgrims from various states, are now facing difficulties in returning home. Shipping authorities emphasize that the suspension is temporary and normal sailing services will resume once visibility conditions improve, considering the risk of major accidents in the foggy conditions.
